The AHRQ Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award (K08) is designed to support individuals with clinical doctoral degrees in developing their research careers in health services research. This grant provides salary and research support for 3-5 years, allowing awardees to engage in mentored research and/or studies intensively. The goal is for participants to become independent researchers and competitive for future research funding.

- Lead applicant organizations must be U.S.-based eligible entities listed above. AHRQ’s authorizing legislation does not allow for-profit organizations to lead applications under this mechanism; they may participate only as consortium members or subcontractors. Because the program’s purpose is to improve healthcare in the U.S., foreign institutions may participate only as consortium members or subcontractors.
