The National Cancer Institute (NCI) will fund early-stage, high-risk/high-reward cancer research through the NIH R21 mechanism. The goal is to spark innovative ideas that could significantly advance cancer diagnosis, treatment, imaging, symptom/toxicity management, and prevention, and potentially lead to first-in-human clinical trials.
