The Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Program provides financial and technical support to state foresters for assisting fire departments in rural areas with populations of 10,000 or less. The funding covers organizing, training, and equipping these departments to prevent and suppress fires, with a required 50-50 match from non-federal funds.
